Make a Difference Monday

I decided today that we would have Make a difference Monday + 2 since it's wednesday. I read this and just had to share. Not so much because I want you to make a difference in anything - but because I want to make a difference in your life and in how you view the world today and because I want to share how these people are making a difference all the way around the world.

I have never heard of "the Persecuted Church" but apparently it's a huge deal and many people have heard of it. I was unaware that in Uzbekistan it is a Crime to be a Christian. (I tend to avoid the news so I am one of the masses of uninformed!)

Apparently it is illegal there to have more than 2 Christian items (T-shirts count, the Bible counts, the content of what is in your music counts)

If you are caught preaching the Gospel you are fined between 20 and 100 times your monthly income. Apparently there were Sunday School lessons about this last year.
I just found this series of posts about a family from uzbekistan who are here in the states and how this lady met them and no words I have can explain this.

Go see what happened over at We are THAT family when God stepped into these families lives....One more thing before I give you the link...Go grab some tissues now. Trust me.

Take me to the crying...

Make a Difference Monday: Serve your elders

When is the last time you did something nice for an elderly person?? I hope it was recently! It has been far too long for me. I will be baking a pie as soon as I find the recipe for a delicious chocolate pie!

I did some thinking today while explaining to someone what a church pantry was. Who do you think makes use of the church pantry? I never really thought about it before but you can guess who is making use of the pantry. The elderly, the sick, the overwhelmed, the heartbroken, the homeless, the single parent families all benefit from your donation to a food pantry somewhere.

I challenge you to search your heart. My heart used to be hard and stony when it came to giving to the poor and hungry.

Here are actual thoughts I've had:
"They can get out there and work just the same as I can."
"If they managed their money better then they wouldn't be so hungry."
"Why are these people collecting canned goods AGAIN? Canned good drive INDEED!"

When the boyscouts came around collecting canned goods I used that opportunity to ditch the foods I didn't want to eat with the thought of "There! if you are so hungry then you eat BEETS!" (I Hate them.)

I don't tell you this to make you hate me or for you to think I am a horrible person. I tell you this because if your heart is hard and stony then maybe you need to hear that you are not alone. I had friends over the years who were financially challenged and I always was happy to help THEM but when it came to helping other people - forget about it!!

I've mentioned it before but about 7 years ago God let me be REALLY poor for a while. He let me be hungry. I am here to tell you that it is quite humbling having to ask a classmate for help in getting food for dinner because you simply don't have the resources. It's kind of a toss up in my mind if that was worse or if washing my hair with water pouring off the roof was worse.

After that season in my life my heart began to soften and now I have a major soft spot for people who are hungry....and as a Christian I am called to help those in need.

34-36"Then the King will say
to those on his right, 'Enter, you who are blessed by my Father! Take what's
coming to you in this kingdom. It's been ready for you since the world's
foundation. And here's why:

I was hungry and you fed me,
I was thirsty and you gave me a drink,
I was homeless and you gave me a room,
I was shivering and you gave me clothes,
I was sick and you stopped to visit,
I was in prison and you came to me.'

37-40"Then those 'sheep' are going to say, 'Master, what are you talking about? When did we ever see you hungry and feed you, thirsty and give you a drink? And when did we ever see you sick or in prison and come to you?' Then the King will say, 'I'm telling the solemn truth: Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me—you did it to me.' (Matthew 25:34-40, The Message)

That passage helps me to know that I am doing the right thing by sharing with those less fortunate. Especially when you realize that most food pantries whether they are maintained by a church or the government or an individual non-profit entity are all doing great work (and whether or not they want to admit it or acknowledge it - they are doing God's work.)

I used to only give food I didn't personally want when I was giving to canned food drives. Now that I look back upon my stony heart I am sad for all of those people who had to eat beets for thanksgiving because I didn't care enough to donate delicious food to canned food drives! (Not to pick on beets but I really do not like them :) ) Mostly though, I am sad for me and all of the wasted time being bitter.

So who are you feeding by donating to a food pantry?
You may be feeding an 80 year old woman who was once a school teacher and/or sunday school teacher who has no children to help her.

You may be feeding the children of a single mother who has no other family and ran from her abusive husband to save her children's lives.

You may be feeding a family of 5 who have fallen on hard times because both mother and father have been laid off and are unskilled or skilled in an unfortunate area and therefore unable to find jobs.

One thing is certain though, no matter who gets your food - you are feeding someone hungry. You are feeding Jesus.

If you are interested in grabbing some super cheap food to take to your local food bank and are located in or near Nashville - here is a list of some of the foods I was able to donate today:

Success Rice: $2.19 -$1.50 = .69¢ a box
Tuna Helper: $5.00-$2.25 = $2.75 for 3 (92¢ a box)
BC Pouch Potatoes $1.09 - $1.20 = FREE (Actually they only took off $1.09 per pouch)
Starkist tuna pouch $2.39-$1.50 = .89¢ a pouch
BC Frosting $1.67 - $1.50 = .17¢ each
Ragu Pasta Sauce $3.52 - $1.80 = $1.72/2. .86¢ each down from $1.76

Realize that the coupon prices listed above are with tripled coupons. For instance the rice coupon in the first example was .50¢

Triples last through midnight on Tuesday/Wednesday and are at Harris Teeter and Krogers located near Harris Teeters

Make a Difference Monday (The September 14th edition)

Okay so I realize it's neither Monday nor September 14th but I think it's really cool how all week I just didn't feel right posting a MADM post and I kept trying to word things and having to rewrite bits and pieces of my post until I finally deleted it and just decided to skip last week and then today I found inspiration and the correct words.

I have a couple of things to mention here. You know that I have a special place in my heart for the hungry. It is my firm belief and my PASSION that NO ONE in America in 2009 should be hungry. Look at the obscene amount of food that Americans waste on a daily basis, yet we have hungry people here. There are children who go home from school every day not knowing if they are going to eat again before the school provides their lunch the next day.

There are two ways that you can put your couponing to good use right now (Well there are more than two but i'm going to highlight two)

If you are a member of Gladeville church or just from around the community and interested in helping...
From the church bulletin:
HUGS Ministry/Local Mission Needed
The Hugs Ministry will be providing Thanksgiving Baskets to families in need throughout our community again this year. The boxes will be provided through our Angel Food Ministries and our own GBC food pantry. We will be accepting both cash and food donations. If you would like to make a cash donation you can put your donation in an envelope marked 'Thanksgiving Boxes' and drop it off in any Information Center drop box. If you would like to make a food donation please bring those to any Information Center.

Food Closet Needs:
The food closet is in need of the following items:
mashed potatoes, stuffing, cake mixes, icing, spaghetti sauce, tuna, jelly, crackers, pasta, hamburger/tuna helper. No Mac & Cheese PLEASE. Also in need of empty copy paper boxes. Please bring your donations to any information center.

Don't forget that the triple coupons going on right now at Kroger & Harris Teeter make a lot of these items free or close to it. (There is a .75 printable for jelly on coupons.com) So I guess for the rest of the day I am going to be hiding in my room going through coupons trying to find coupons for these items so I can use them to triple at Kroger/Harris teeter on Monday.

Make a DIFFERENCE Monday: US SOLDIERS Serving overseas

Serving in our Nations Military must be a hard job. I wouldn't know - it isn't something I have ever been able to do. My grandfather served during world war II as a medic in the"hellcats." My dad was in the Navy for 20 years and his best friend was a Marine for a very long time. I watch NCIS but somehow I don't think that counts as military service.

When I worked at a daycare in Clarksville, TN for six months last year I learned a few things about the military there.

The daycare where I worked had many "Army Brats" that we cared for. There was a girl who was 1 week older than my baby whose mommy was a soldier in Iraq. She was living with her grandmother. Her mom had not seen her since she was 3 months old and wouldn't get back until the little girl was 15 months old.

If you listen to WAYFM in the afternoons you may have heard Wally on TotalAxxess. I was listening to Total Axxess the other day and Wally was talking about his Operation H.E.R.O.S.
(Helping Everyone Remember Our Soldiers) which I think is a really cool and worthy idea that I am totally borrowing to share with you guys so you can participate too!!

His idea is this...it is our soldiers who keep us safe here in America and they are over there serving us and our country and so many people forget that they are STILL THERE, day after day. There are several programs that you can use to send care packages to one of the thousands of US Soldiers currently serving - but the problem is that apparently it takes time to get them all sorted out and distributed to individual soldiers. Which is a shame.

So Wally had an idea to get around this problem. One of his faithful listeners is actually a soldier over in Iraq. His name is Sgt. Jeff Koopman. Wally came up with the idea to actually send the care packages to Jeff and let him distribute them to the soldiers where he is. I think this is a marvelous idea and I plan to participate. Here is the link to Wally's blog about it.

The boxes he is talking about are these. (You can see the picture above) You can actually order them from the USPS in packages of 10 or 25 FOR FREE!! they cost $11.95 each to mail. The recommendation from Wally and I will echo that is to go by the Post office and pick up a box then fill it. You are stockpiling now right? Or have picked up a FEW extras i'm sure....and if you don't have extras at home - I am sure you have a few extra bucks now from all the deals you've snagged.

Here are some of the recommendations from Wally's blog along with some of my own:

Music: itunes gift cards, other music
Food & 'drink': Snacks (Granola bars, individual packages of trailmix, beef jerky, cookies, gum, skittles, drink mixes (Crystal light, koolaid etc) Plastic bottles for them to drink out of (nalgene reusable bottle or rubbermaid drinking bottle) hard candy,
Stuff to do: books, magazines, Bibles, activity books (Word search, crossword puzzles, sudoku books, cards, card games such as pictureeka and the like) calenders,
flip flops - THESE are in especially high demand right now especially in the smaller sizes and you can find them ON CLEARANCE in so many places right now. Lots of people don't think to send women sized items and the smaller sized items GO FAST according to a comment I read over on Wally's post. The flip flops help the soldiers to feel like real civilians after a hard days work and allows them to take their boots off.
Stuff to use: aka hygiene stuff! Hand sanitizer, Lotion, toothbrush, tooth paste, dental floss, deodorant, chap stick, lip balm, shampoo, soap etc.
Stuff to encourage: Cards and letters for our men and women in service, beautiful post cards from where you live, Say a prayer for them, then write it down and include it written on some pretty paper with a note that tells them you prayed for them.

You also may want to check out soldiers angels if you want to adopt a soldier and can make the commitment to send packages over a long period of time.

Where to Send it:
SGT Koopman, Jeff
A Co. 1-128 IN
APO AE 09342

Can't afford to fill an entire box all by yourself AND ship it for $11.95? Team up with someone else and put together a box to send. :)

Make a difference Monday...something a little different...

I have spent my entire weekend with a sick 22 month old and a semi-sick 5 month old. So I didn't get a whole lot of opportunity to write. They are both sleeping now and I shall be too in a few short minutes. Apparently we had baby insomnia last night and were up until 12:30am in one case and almost 1am in another case!!! Then the wee one woke up at 4am wanting to play, i snuggled him back to sleep but at 6:45 he woke up wanting to eat.

So today I will make two posts for MADM. (In addition to getting things moving with the short list over to the right here. This week has really been difficult and i apologize!)

The short option for make a difference Monday is this:

The Nashville AIDS walk is coming up on 9-26. I have a friend who is walking this year. God calls us to do for the needy, doesn't he?

'And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’Matthew 25:39-41

I would like to see her meet or exceed her fund-raising goal of $50.00 before the end of the day. If you are able and so moved to do so...please help her reach her goal.

Make a Difference Monday: Helping the Homeless

It was early June when she crossed my path...My daughter saw her first. "Dog dog!!!" came the shriek from the back seat. There was indeed a dog by the light with a girl. She had a sign that said "Very hungry, no money. God Bless You." My heart broke into tiny pieces when I saw her because she did look extremely hungry. I had $2.00 and an open bag of Kettle Chips to offer but I figured it was better than nothing.

I was in the middle lane and called her over. I gave her my measly two bills and she gushed "Thank you so much! God Bless You!!" I wanted to cry. I asked her if she would like the bag of chips. I Apologized for them being open but she didn't care. She was just so happy that someone was offering her food.

I cried all the way home and for the remainder of my car trip...and I wondered what her story was. Why was she homeless?

I am extremely passionate about helping the homeless. There, but for the grace of God, go I! I believe God wants us to serve those who are in need...

"If there is a poor man among your brothers in any of the towns of the land that the Lord your God is given you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward your poor brother. Rather be openhanded and freely lend him whatever he needs." -Deuteronomy 15:7-8 **emphasis is mine**

This past week I learned that there are approximately 30-40 homeless children living in my county (which is one of the wealthiest counties in Tennessee!!) Apparently there has been some local media coverage about Timberline campground in Lebanon but because I live under a rock I didn't know about it until I was talking about homelessness with a local lady and she mentioned some of the homeless that she helps are in Lebanon.

What can we do?
"Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers in to His harvest field." -Matthew 9:37

I don't think that giving cash to people I do not know is the most effective use of my money. If I am going to donate money to helping homeless folks then I want a steward I can trust! I would be devastated if I gave a few dollars to someone and they managed to overdose because of my money. (Maybe I have seen too many 20/20 specials!)

How can you avoid helping someone along the path to destruction?

Don't give money to individuals. If you only want to donate money then find an organization to be a steward of your money... Locally the Nashville Rescue Mission, or Brooks House or Gladeville Baptist Church would all be more than happy to accept any donation that you would like to provide. *note* if you donate to a church, you may want to tell them specifically what you would like your money to go towards. I think this would fall under "Missions offering" or something similar.

There is another route you could take as well...since you read this blog and go searching for the local steals and deals you have invaluable skills that most of America do not have!! You have learned how to get something for virtually nothing!!

Maybe you and a group of friends (or your Sunday School class or your high school class or your small group or your family) could get together and make hygiene packs for the homeless and then donate those to any of the places listed above. As many free dental products as are out there this week it should make them fairly inexpensive...especially if you share the expense with a group of folks. Free carefree at Walgreens this week (Free after Register Rewards...ask me before buying more than one pack and I'll explain how to Roll your RR's!)

You could make several very inexpensive hygiene kits and stick some fun items in there like granola bars or individual packs of trailmix (Planters makes a yummy kind and you can buy it in boxes with six individual serving sized packs in them!!) or other food items...packets of oatmeal etc.

You can usually find these things free or extremely cheap around once a month or so:
Toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, soap or body wash, dental floss, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, razors....

If you are like me with the big heart and inability to pass anyone up, you might also try this: Save a few of the hygiene kits from above and keep them in your car, maybe along with individual juice boxes or pouch type drinks. Then if you come across someone who has been stripped of everything except a tiny shred of dignity and a ton of humiliation you can give them some dignity back and give them the chance to see Jesus in you. I am sure they would much rather have something clean and fresh to drink and some hand sanitizer to clean their hands and something to eat than the money anyway. The $2.00 or so it might cost you to make one of these bags will go a lot further with coupons and thoughtful shopping than it would on the McDonalds Value menu.

**I am going to sleep a few hours before my monkeys wake up. Rite Aid will be up later today and I will be sure to update the make a difference Monday short list. So sorry I haven't gotten that done yet.

FREE Toothpaste this week at CVS & Rite Aid. FREE Carefree at Walgreens.**

**Please note - I am not suggesting anyone place themselves in danger at all here. A portion of the Homeless are mentally Ill or have malicious intentions just like people with homes. If you have concerns for your safety then please just donate your hygiene kits to one of the three locations above and keep yourself safe!! Do also realize that not all homeless folks are bad or mentally ill**

Make a Difference Monday Part 1:: Christmas in August!!

Even though it's still hitting the 100's daily....I have been thinking about Christmas for several weeks. If we aren't careful about time it will speed past us and then, we will turn around and that old fat man will be "Ho ho ho" ing all over the place!!! Money will be tight and time will be tighter.

In 1977 I was 25 months old at Christmas. . . The day I met with Santa that year, I must have been hungry. I only asked Santa for two things. Ice Cream & Hotdogs. Christmas morning under my tree I found....why...that jolly old elf had been so nice to this little girl!!! There was a rocking horse and Hotdogs and Icecream. Children have such simple wishes, don't they?
Our wishes get much less simple as we age. In 1993 I was a teenager and at the height of a very self-centered streak...(almost all teenagers are self-centered to some extent..it's part of growing up!) Our first period class chose to sponsor a large family of 6 at Christmas. For some reason, our teacher had another student and myself drop the items off. When I took the items to the family's trailer to drop them off I dropped off a giant ham and all the trimmings for a very NICE Christmas dinner, roughly $100.00 in Gift Certificates from Kroger for future groceries, a coat for each person, an outfit for each person and a toy or two per child.

I don't remember why I was elected to play elf-girl but I'm glad that I was. That really affected me. How awesome was it for those parents to be able to give their children a Christmas because of the kindness of others?

I feel burdened...as I said yesterday...God has been speaking to me, so I am challenging myself and I want to share my challenge with you: Encourage a group you are a part of to adopt a family for Christmas and really do it up for the family. In this area I understand an organization called HUGS handles that and I have looked for a link for them for days, hopefully someone "in the know" will comment or email and let me know contact information so that people involved in other churches can participate too if they are looking for a program like this

Imagine how much stuff you would be able to stock up for Christmas giving if you start using coupons & shopping sales now. The challenge is not to just stock up random items but try to stock as many of the "Essentials" as possible before Christmas time giving gets underway.

I think I may just save my items and give them to the church to choose distribution to fill in holes depending on what the church chooses as their goal.

What a Glory to God it will be when that family receives a gift basket from the church that contains not only a BUNCH of food but also toothpaste, mouth wash, dental floss, toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo, body wash/soap, etc. and then because you were able to stretch your charity budget that much farther just using coupons, maybe there will be an extra toy or so in there for their babies.

Looking for a way to adopt a family? Gladeville Baptist Church does this every Christmas & Thanksgiving. Please feel free to contact the church at (615) 444 - 9550 to see about donating and helping meet the needs of people within this community!

Not from this community? Check with your local churches & Department of Human Services to locate an organization that may offer the same thing. I don't know about you folks, but I am super excited about this Holiday Season!!!

Please find a way to bless a teacher this week. It doesn't have to be anything big, but please take the time to write a note or buy a .49 pack of pens during the back to school sales and send them to a teacher.

Make a Difference Monday 8-10-9

Good Morning!

I hope that you had a blessed weekend. I certainly did. My pastor is speaking this month on getting a Fresh Start with God. His message was about Zaccheus this week. Do you remember your first exposure to the story of Zaccheus? I remember mine. For the first few minutes of the message I was singing the song of Zaccheus in my head. Sorry Brother Grubbs :)

Zaccheus was a wee, little man, And a wee, little man was he
He climbed up in a sycamore tree, For the Lord he wanted to see

If you haven't read it, this story can be found in Luke 19:1-10.
I am really enjoying this month's series on Fresh Starts because like all of our featured stories, I have had a fresh start. (perhaps one day I will get around to sharing my most recent new beginnings with you all)

If you are interested in a Fresh Start with the Lord then please come visit us either in person or virtually via live worship services on the church website. I have been attending this church off and on for 20 years. The Glade church is an AWESOME place to worship!

I know what it is to be hungry. I know what it is to be unable to feed myself and to have to rely on the kindness of my friends. I have been in a jam before where I was unable to pay my electric bill or buy groceries and needed help. I have lived without running water for more than a week. It's not a very fun experience. If you don't believe me, the next time it rains, run outside in a sports bra and some shorts with a bottle of shampoo and stand under the run off of some water and wash your hair and try to shower. Even in July that water is COLD!

My mom and some of my friends were able to help me out then. One of my friends bought me some groceries, another friend had me over for dinner a few nights a week, another friend had me over to shower.

As bad as things were then... I have SIGNIFICANTLY less income now than I had at that time but I am far better at managing my money now. I find that my life is a living example of the story of the loaves and the fishes in Mark 6:33-44. The more I give, the more I have.

At the top right of the page you may have noticed by now the MADM short list. I have listed out items you can get for very cheap at most of the stores I cover for your convenience. You may need to go see the store specific post in order to find the actual coupon matchup or how to make it free. Walgreens Items are basically free after instant rebate in the form of Register Rewards. If you have questions for me please leave me a comment and i'm happy to answer you or if you know me in person feel free to find me some other way and ask.

Last week I took two big boxes of items to the church. Part of it was items I purchased off of my MADM list of donation items (Cereal, Knorr Sides, Canned Fruit) I also added some laundry detergent, candy, feminine hygiene products, a pack of underjams, some formula I had been given that I couldn't use etc. The exra items that I added to my donation were predominately items I was cleaning out of my stockpile. I still have more than enough for my own purposes too. Never underestimate the need to clean out your stockpile. Make sure you are vigilant about your expiration dates so that you don't lose any food!

Have a great Monday - How did you make a difference last week?

Make a Difference Monday: Generous Gifts

Over the past 10 years I can't count the number of times I have wanted to give a brighter day to someone and was unable to do so. Being extremely creative and frugal I have come up with a way to make a difference for someone and stay under budget.

Shopping with coupons you can make extremely nice gift baskets for an extremely low cost. If you catch baskets on sale that's great! If you don't, be creative. Look around for non-traditional containers for your gift baskets. There is a college student I am in the process of making a "Gift basket" for. I have yet to come up with a very creative container for the bulk of things but I did put some Koolaid singles, a few Crystal light single serving packs, a few granola bars, some cereal bars, some individual bags of kashi crackers all in a ziploc bag that has snowmen on it. I wrote on it "Stay Cool, We'll protect your snacks!!"
I also plan to include some shampoo & bodywash and deodorant. Hopefully I can come up with witty little statements for those items - for the Deodorant I plan to attach a tag that says something like "For when your exams start to make you sweat!" I've gotten some packs of pens for free recently, I think I may include some of them and maybe a notebook also. This is a college student after all. I have a few rather LARGE insulated mugs/cups that may be suitable or actually I just emptied a large formula can. I bet I could make that look rather stylish with some paint or some contact paper with funny phrases written on it.
If you don't have a large stockpile at your disposal or have random containers to fill at your disposal try this:
Sometimes you can manage to get plastic cups for free or extremely cheap with coupons - the solo cups are perfect for this!!!
Remember that it is totally okay to open packages. I was stuck for a long time being stingy with my Kashi. I wanted to share it with people so they could see how AMAZING this food is but I also wanted to eat it myself so I was conflicted. I know it seems simple but I realized if I open the box I can put individual items in a gift basket or share individual sized snacks with people.
In our cup I mentioned, you could put 2 different flavors of granola bars, two or three different flavors of crystal light, Do you request a lot of samples to get the coupons? stick a sample of something appropriate in the cup. Look around your house for ideas. Packets of koolaid are bright and make a great addition to little snack cups that you are giving away.
It is a simple and inexpensive gift that can show appreciation to someone without your having to spend a lot of money. If you are a member of swagbucks You might want to see about gifting them a $5.00 amazon.com gift card you have bought from the swagstore.
I'm telling you - if someone left me a plastic cup with some pens, a granola bar, a cereal bar, an instant coffee stick, an instant creamer stick, some crystal light and a post it note with a handwritten note advising me I have an amazon.com giftcard waiting for me - I'd be a happy girl!!! I don't know about you :)
Just be creative in your giving. Giving doesn't have to be boring or feel like a chore :)
Have you recently given anything or been creative in your giving and want to share? please comment below and share with us all :)

Make a difference MONDAY

Welcome to the first Make a difference MONDAY post. Yes. I realize it is WEDNESDAY :)

I'm a little bit late getting this issue out ;). Only 2 days though!

God has recently laid a very important issue on my heart and this will be the main issue I discuss on Make a difference Monday but This isn't limited to that.

The issue on my heart is hunger. If you have never had to choose between being hungry or paying bills I am so thankful for you! It is not a good feeling and it is a really awful position to be in. In 2002 I was so poor I couldn't afford my electricity in November and it got shut off. That was a very cold night. Mom helped me pay to turn my electricity back on but from then until probably September 2003 I usually had to choose if I was going to eat more than ramen (if at all) or pay my bills.

I have lived without running water for a month because I chose to spend $5 to buy ramen to eat and then didn't have enough money to pay my water bill. Washing your hair and bathing in the rain may SOUND Like it is all fun and earthy...but it is SO not!

I have washed my clothes in a plastic tub rather than spend the quarters to use a washing machine.

I now see that I never really had to live that way! Of course there are so many more coupon resources in 2009 than there were 7 years ago.

A very important resource for people who are in this horrible position is church. Every church pantry is hurting right now. People have had to tighten their belt and are having a hard time finding extra to shuttle off to the church.

With coupons I have discovered I can live VERY well and have an overwhelming abundance of items to donate to church. (Not all is food. Last week I donated FIVE Blood glucose meters as well as some bandaids and shampoo, toothpaste, and deodorant, this week's donation includes feminine hygiene products, toothbrushes, toothpaste, school supplies, a pack of underjams, shampoo, soap, candy and a bunch of food.

Part of this weeks donation is a rotation of my stock that I have here at home. I am rotating items out to make room for new stuff I bought or will buy. I try not to donate only boring food. I try to donate both nutritious and "fun" food. Think about how gloriously happy you could make a small child by donating something as simple as a .10 cent pack of koolaid, or a Johnson & Johnson's "Buddies" soap for kids.

If you have been directed to my blog via Gladeville church and are here with the intent of helping stock the pantry, welcome and thank you for your generous heart!

Every Monday I will be making a post like this one "Make a difference Monday" where I will highlight the steals in our area. In each of the weekly ad posts I will highlight the products that are exceptionally cheap and therefore virtually painless to our pocketbook to donate!!

From Publix this week:

**Post Honey Bunches of Oats, Assorted Varieties, 13 to 18-oz box, or Just Bunches!, 17-oz box, (excluding Family Size) BOGO $3.99 *DONATION*
-$2/1 PRINT
-$1/1; $1/2 from 07-26-09 SS
-.75/1 UPOMISE eCoupon
Each box is FREE with the $2/1 IP –use your Upromise key card to deposit $.75 when you buy Pecan Bunches!

Most Printable coupons are able to be printed twice per computer. So if you print two of this coupon you have 1 FREE box to donate and 1 for your house to eat! and you only end up paying about 28 cents in tax!!!!

In the above example, the Purple part is the item description - you can see it has been marked with *Donation* meaning it is a part of MADM.
Red Text will always be coupon amounts. You see there is a 2.00 printable coupon with a link and there are coupons that came out on July 26th in the smart source coupon insert.
Orange text indicates a Upromise coupon is available. Upromise is an exceptional program that allows you to save money for your child's college while grocery shopping.
Green text is usually notes.

If you feel the desire to donate but simply don't have the time, patience or money for this but still want to help - you can donate coupons!!!

If you let me know you want to donate coupons I will be more than happy to clip the coupons and take the items to church to be donated.

I will also make a separate post each week listing each store & what you can get cheap there for donation so it's in one place.

Please bear with me as I work on finding the time to get this information to you.

Publix weekly ad 8/5-8/111

A few things about Publix:
1. Publix does allow the use of competitor coupons. You need to be sure & ask at the customer service desk who is considered a competitor. In Mount Juliet they consider: Harris Teeter, Kroger, and Food Lion to be competitors for sure. You cannot use Target Printables in Mount Juliet!
2. Publix only allows 1 copy of each competitor coupon.
3. Publix allows you to stack 1 store coupon & 1 Manufacturer coupon on an item to increase your savings.
4. If you shop with Food Stamps or an EBT card AND have coupons on your non-food items you should separate your food from your non-food items and do two separate transactions. Otherwise you could end up paying totally out of pocket for all of your non-food items. (Their system does not recognize coupons as food or non-food related and automatically removes them from the food total)

Items suitable for Make a Difference Monday donation will be highlighted in Purple.

Here are the Publix weekly deals for this week over at I Heart Publix..I will be highlighting just a few things...please go visit I heart publix and see what all is cheap this week but I heart publix has a post here of what she considers to be SUPER DEALS!
